I'm hoping that someone can explain the differences between negging and teasing. I understand that teasing is more lighthearted; but my question is, under which circumstances do you use one instead of the other?

negging is more for bringing her self esteem down a little so she doesnt think she is better than you
cuz when a girl is approached by guys all the time, her ego is through the roof
but the second a guy comes up and negs her, she is practically slapped in the face and suprised, and says to herself "woah, wuts this guy have that i havent seen before?"
and after a couple negs, depends on the ego of the girl, and as long as u have her friend(s) liking you, she will try to get you to like her too and get ur attention
thats when after the right amount of IOIs, you go in for the kill (metaphorically speaking of course haha)

once she has ur attention again, thats when u can tease her playfully making her laugh. some teases can act as negs too. but teasing is really just to get people to laugh and make u still the alpha male.
but practically like u said, teasing is just a softer neg
