I just started my second year of college. While meeting people on my dorm floor, some girls have walked into my room and introduced themselves as a courtesy. I'm able to talk for a while about school and where they are from, but after that I really run out of things to talk about. This isn't necessarily about picking up, more about just general social skills. Whereas I saw them go into another rooms and stay in there for a long time because the guys are able to keep them interested and laughing. Do you guys have any tips for holding conversation and being interesting?

Man what I think you should do is ask questions like..

What do you see your self doing after school?
What do you want to be when you grow up?
Ask what the miss the most about home? And ask what they love the most here?
Ask her if she has ever wondered what her husband would look like?
Ask how many kids does she want?

Basicaly just ask questions like that befriend everyone get to know them you will see them everyday that your in school..So get to know everything they are willing to let you know...

Yes asking interesting and unusual question will keep a conversation going, it can also come across like an interview. It doesnt work.

Try to stay of the topics of school etc, everyone at the college is talking about that 24/7 , be unique.

As for things to talk about, the only way you can talk about things is by having done things. In short, go out and live life and have expereience. Then u can share them :)

I agree but if he has used a time constraint he could ask a few questions then she will ask some then he can say well i gotta get back to bla bla..I know if you ask to many questions it does come across as a interview, but he said he was lacking social skills not trying to pick up hb's...So asking questions to people he will be seeing for the duration of the school year should be a thought!

"I want you girls to help me (or us) find a party tonight!"

Say that in a high energy vibe, like it's a normal thing for you to have fun all the time.

This statement will open up many things to talk back and forth on, such as, oh yea we went to this frat party on this day blah blah, it was fun, weird, etc.

The girls will think you are outgoing and exciting, and after they hear you ask them for party info, its almost a 100% chance they'll want to see you there as well.

If the girls dont have any knowledge of what the next coming parties are, you can tell them, "Ok then, I'm gonna find out the next best party and you're all coming!"

Try it

just push your self by staying in the conversation when there is nothing to say. Your brain will spit something out or she will say something or she will leave. I used to "run out of things to say" but after doing that for a long time now I can naturally vibe.
