I was wondering what would happen if you asked a HB8 her opinion on a HB9? I was thinking about saying something like:
Me: Hey HB8 what do you think of this girl (show her picture of HB9)? She looks kinda cute but she seems a little weird.

I was wondering if that would do anything to HB8? Would she get jealous or would something else happen? Just curious because I was thinking about doing something like this with other HBs.

Why don't you try it out, and post the results? You can learn a lot more if you do this by first hand, then if we just figured out something.

Ok so I asked HB8 about HB9 a couple days ago and she got really jealous. She tried not to act like it but it could tell by her body language and her tone that she was really jealous. This is how it went:
Me: Hey HB8 I'm going on a date with this girl tomorrow and I think she's cute but she seems a little weird. (I showed her a pic of HB9 and told HB8 what HB9 was like). What do you think?
HB8: Oh she's alright looking. (Arms crossed, looking away) I think she's probably just one of those girls that are all looks nothing else.

It does not matter at all. You should be able to turn it all around anyway. Like show her a picture of an atriocious girl, and then after her reaction tease her about being so superficial.

You guys are making things overly complicated. This is a very simple concept. Something that naturally could, and does occur in normal social situations.

As for OP, it looks like you experienced just what I expected: This has little to no effect. It is however an efficient way of starting or sparking up a conversation(though you didn't seem like you got into this).

Yep this can definitely be done w/ someone you've just met.

Here's an example of a variation of this - was out w/ friends. Some girl was with who I had never met before. I intentionally told her "that waitress is pretty hot." Her immediate response: "what about me?" And then she went on to say how she just broke up w/ her fiancee etc. So yes this strategy and variations of it can and do work.

No the interaction did not finish there. Here's what happened after:
Me: Looks like someone's jealous (smirk on my face)
HB8: No I'm not! I'm just...
Me: Shhh it's ok (I bring her into me, lower my voice) You don't have to worry about it. (make out with her)
After that I took her home and you can figure out the rest from there.

Well yeah the girl needs to know you're just messing with her, delivery is crucial as always.
