I thought I would cover two things I tried tonight that didn't work. For the record, I was all alone and had mixed success with the following approaches. I hope this helps some of you out!
First, I tried the approach of asking them a question. The question was "Do you think a guy and a girl can just be "Friends" ". I thought this was a good question and in fact this worked with some groups tonight. However, the problem was that, even though I grounded the topic by telling them I just had this conversation with my friend, I also mentioned that I had been taking a poll with other people. She responded that she didn't think guys and girls could just be friends. I replied "That's been every girls response". What ruined this for me is the fact the she now knew I had been approaching lots of other people that night. I didn't make her feel special. The change in her tone went from excited to distant instantly. The moral of the story is to make every set feel special even if the line has been used all night. This may seem obvious, but I just learned the subtleties. When I used this question with another group it was very successful and got the women talki
ng quite a bit.
Second, I tried a line based on the situation. The bar I was in had Cougars all over the place. I thought I would try to be funny so I asked a girl if this bar usually had this many cougars. She hadn't been to this bar before and didn't know what that meant, so I explained. After that she was still interested in conversing until I said "I've never had this many women over 40 approach me". Anyone who knows me would know that's a joke and laugh. This girl just replied "Great for you" and went back to the bar. The lesson here is to not be that cocky right off the bat. She thought I was trying to make her jealous with the 40 year old women when I just thought it was a joke. It was out of my character and the last comment seems unnecessary. Instead I should have gone with something about how refreshing it is to see younger attractive girls in here instead of cougars. Then taken it from there.
I do have one question for everyone. I ended up in lots of groups tonight. During my conversations groups of attractive girls would come close. I simply couldn't find a way to stop the conversation with the set without coming across as a jerk so I could approach the good looking single girls. I didn't think it was a good idea to bring these girls into my current set because girls in the set were interested. Does anyone have some good ways to get out of a conversation without being a dick and ruining chances with both sets? I've tried, "excuse me for a second I have to ask someone something". When I'm out there alone it gets hard to make excuses to leave except the bathroom. Any suggestions are welcome
