For hugging and hands, you are gaining comfort. But you have to do this subtly which means not letting her think you're actually trying to game her. It's kinda like a reward for her jumping through your hoops. Once you kiss, then you know you're in and she's attracted to you. Then go on further easily.
One thing i've noticed in the past is if you both like have something in similar she will be like "omg that's awesome" and will hi five you, if it's like a slap she's not so comforted/attracted to you. If she holds on then she's into your turf. You will know what i mean by a straight up high five or high five and holding on to the hand. It's a subconcious IoI. But yeah the high five and holding hands is the base of comfort so make sure to establish that early.
