BACKSTORY: So I picked up a girl at a party and had a day 2 right before we went on holiday from class for a month. Kept up conversation over break - just light, fun convo.

Last night was our first night back, and she has never initiated a conversation but last night texted me to see if I was going to a specific party. She showed up a little after I did and we briefly talked, but I was busy talking with some other people and she kept disappearing and what not. When she left once I sent her a text saying

ME: "You too tired from partying already? I mean I know its ur first day back and all "
Her: "Haha good joke"
ME: "I wasn't joking"

The whole night was full of brief run ins but nothing really because I didn't feel like chasing after her and some guy was hitting on her the entire night. Which he had actually said something to me because he found out that i was into her, and I told him that he was free to have his go at her. To sum up, I know she was upset about something at the end of the night, not sure about what though.

Should I be trying to do damage control? And either way, how can I keep things moving forward with her?

to me it seems like you kind of fucked things up, at least for that night. How did this other guy know that your into this girl? if he knew, then she probably knows that your into her too. and I would assume that she might think your just a pussy for not going after her more that night and trying to play it coy.

but it might not be over yet. just wait a week and message her again. she'll prally be up for at least another outing with you around. almost got to pretend that this last one didn't happen

Hit her up and tell her you want to talk with her about the night at the party. It's clearly a misunderstanding that should be dealt with. You don't know each other enough to get in each other's heads yet, so these things will happen, and addressing them with the people they happen with will help you in later social interactions through understanding of others' perception of your actions. (long sentence i know)

Call her and tell her you want to address the situation at the party and meet up with her for coffee to do so.

Treat it like you would with one of your close friends. She might end up being one.
