Long story short, regular haunt of mine employs new barmaid few weeks back and been flirting increasingly ever since, getting lots of IoIs (catch her looking at me a fair bit, heavy EC and general flirty behavior), DHV'd by mentioning i'm a Firefighter when she asked why i wasn't drinking and then again when i ran out the bar half way through the night due to a call.

Was aiming to get the number close tonight but having heard about and knowing barmaids to be wiley creatures to close i spent most of the night building social proof in front of her (couple of the barmaids she works with fancy me and i go there every week and know plenty of the regular folk there for when i need social proof). After a while of this whilst playing pool next to the bar (where i kept catching her watching me) me and a couple mates (all twice my age which probably isn't the best DHV) start lurking near the bar chatting and talking to her in between customers (she came back to me most (not all) the time she was free). Meanwhile another guy lurking on his own at the other end of the bar (had been there for a while) kept vying for her attention and then staring when we were talking making me wonder if he was the BF.

All going well then annoyingly one of said mates asks her if she's given me her number yet Until now i'd been playing it so she didn't really know if if it was interested or just flirting so thats kinda gone out the window. In the end we continued chatting and i carried on as if he hadn't said anything but didn't go for the number close and now can't help wondering if i failed to pull the trigger or if the PU is now kinda ruined or in need of some repair before i go for the close.

So basically she'll be there next week and i'm wondering how to proceed. I'm beginning to think i should have just said something like "So is random staring guy over there the BF or are we gonna hang out some time when you're not working" and may have ruined things by losing the rapport we'd built over the night.

Edit: Oh yeah, asked some kinda AFCish question regarding what she did for fun and we did get on the topic what her main job was and may have failed a shit test in the form of her reply to some flirting when i said she's gonna get me in trouble and she replied she could claim i'd been staring down her top all night and get me kicked out for harrassing her (it was in context and not said in a way to imply threat) and i just came back with a "Touché" or something equally crap.

First of all, NO you didn't fail. Don't worry about it dude. Second of all don't worry about other guys eyeing her and eyeing you. I know it's a bar and people are annoying, but don't be worried about it. Don't be agressive, but just ignore the other guy. He is most likely jealous.

The barmaid is used to being harassed. Your friends don't bother her. The old 50 year old men who touch her ass bother her.

So you don't have anythign to worry about. Your a firefighter, and you are a good guy. Don't compair yourself to others and enjoy your time with her. If you think you can enjoy more time with her and she enjoys time with you then go enjoy more time together... get the logic. It's all about the love. Let it flow man. Let the love flow! and thank you for your service!
