Personally, I like to text to keep me in her thoughts. The rule you speak of is more of a guideline. I don't like to wait too long to re-initiate contact. Just make it a quick message though, you don't want to get into a conversation over text because that will leave you with less stuff to talk about during the dates.
Quick Texts are a great way so that she knows for sure you are thinking about her and it gives her confidence in what she's been experiencing too.
