So, I was on facebook and while commenting on a friends wall, I noticed one of his friends is a girl I used to work with. So I added her and she sent me a message the next day.

In her message, she asked me what I was up to, she heard that I moved jobs and asked about why. Said it was good to see me the "other day" which was about a week before.

I replyed back telling her about the work situation, asking her what she was up to with info I already knew about her since I worked with her for like six months. I wasn't really thinking about picking her up or anything, so I was totally just approaching it as a friends catching up situation.

She e-mails me back, tells me she lives close to me now, and that she may be going back to school to pursue something she enjoys and asks me what kind of jobs I'm looking for.

My question is how to transition this from friends catching up to building rapport. My idea was to say something like "well, Wednesday I'm interviewing for Emporor of the world" OR "I'm mostly interviewing for jobs as a test piliot, astronaut, and race car driver". She'll get the humor in both, but is it a good way to go?

That sounds good, you should improvise that you guys should catch up on things to. Ask what she is doing on a certain day if you have plans to do something wit your boys or something that you do on a regular day like you go shopping invite her saying I need a new suit for a interview want to help me pick one out as well as catch up on life.
