A situation came up yesterday that I'm interested to get some feedback on. I work at a pretty big company (3000+ employees), and there's this one cute blonde that I see from time to time. We always shared eye contact and smiles, but there was never really an opportunity to approach because we were always moving around in groups and I try to be really subtle around the workplace. So just yesterday on the subway to work, she got on my train for the first time. I figured this was a sign, so I just walked up to her as we got off at our stop and said hello. It turns out we were introduced months ago (that was a little embarassing, but I really had no recollection of it...), so that may explain why I caught her looking across at me before.

Anyhow, we were having a good conversation about snowboarding and other non-work related stuff, but soon ended up having to go our separate ways. I was running late for work, so I just quickly told her it was good to talk and that I'd see her around, and we said goodbye. I'm kicking myself for not getting a number or setting up some kind of follow-up, because I believe it was there for the taking.

I'm pretty sure I'm in a good situation here, but my impatient side wants to figure out the best course of action here. Her contact info was available in our company's email directory, so I don't know if it would be considered creepy to use this information to phone or email her and invite her out to arrange a lunch meeting or something. Or would it be better to just rely on the fact that we'll probably see each other again soon and it would be easier to close in person? I'm more inclined to do the latter, because I get the feeling that the first option is coming off as pretty damn needy, and even a little stalkerish... Thoughts?

Whoa, slow down cowboy. You talked to this woman ONCE for a few moments on the train. You work in the same company!

It would be rude for her nót to talk to you. I'm not saying she's not (potentially) interested in you. But the wrong thing to do would be to get a number close, look up her contact info. You have to make her want YOU. You are the prize, and your life is so interesting she wants to be part of it.

So find a way to meet her again, talk to her. DHV, neg, kino. Stick with the plan. If you meet her again on the train, say something like: Whoa, you again? You following me around or what?

And if you see her around at work, just step up and talk to her. You could joke; say something like: I want those reports on my desk by ##:## 'o clock (a time in near future). Then ofcourse when she doesnt bring them over and you see her again, you can tell her she can make up for not handing them in by fixing you a cup of coffee instead or by telling her: ok, i don't have time for this. i'm going to go to lunch soon (check watch and direct body language away, walk one pace away and turn back halfway, tell her: I want to talk this through with you over lunch (in a mocking sort of way, cocky funny).

But you should have probably developed some more rapport before this.

Don't be offended or insulted if she says no, maybe she has something else planned? Tell her this will go on her permanent record in that case. Be prepared to risk losing her.

Use your imagination and DHV. Don't go running after her and stalking her, that's needy. Be different! Hope this helps.

Also: BE CAREFUL WITH WORK-RELATIONSHIPS. they can seriously harm your career. trust me, i know. Ofcourse this depends on how serious your jobe is, but still. take care.

Right on man. I had my eye on this girl for so long without getting the chance to open, so when I finally got the chance, my mind was rushing ahead. But you're right, which was also my original thinking. It's kind of confusing because it seems like she remembers me better than I remember her (she was asking me questions about things I don't even remember telling her about), but I definitely need to stick with the plan. As I said, I'm pretty confident I've got this one - I've gamed girls like her before with no problems outside of work, so I guess there's no need to rush.

I know what you're saying about the work-pickup thing, and I definitely need to be careful because my company flew me across the world to work here in Europe because they saw me as a "high potential" guy. However, it's a pretty big company and our work circles don't cross at all, so it's just a matter of being subtle and respectful about it. Also, as an expat, my social circle isn't what it was back at home, so I'm more willing to take opportunities where I can find them :)
