Met a girl in a club a couple of weeks ago, exchanged numbers and have been texting and chatted somewhat, last night however she rang me twice and we talked at length, she told me that she kissed a guy the night we exchanged numbers.

Now I didn't rise to it, but did probe her for more info, she say's she was stoned and drunk and whatever, but I don't be-grudge her for it as she's single and so am I and it's not like were going out or anything.

I like this girl but I am objective enough and have options elsewhere however I'm wondering if anyone could tell me why she would tell me about him at all as she didn't need really need to?

As I can't see her gaining anything by telling me that, unless it's a test to gauge my reaction.

Yea sounds like definitely to test your reaction to see if that phases you or not. She could also possibly be trying to make you jealous or be trying to boost her value for you by showing that she's also desired by other men.
