Try CALLING and saying: "Let's grab a coffee at Maxwell's on Thursday. How does 7 look?" Direct and not overly interested.

Not good. No response means not all that interested.

her: "oh yeah sorry i forgot to reply...yeah sure it'd be fun to meet up

Me: "sounds good, im not driving though i'll grab the train...should be a laugh"
Her: "you cant come to mine! my parents will think you're my boyfriend xD its too weird being like hey...this is my friend steve"
No, you're not in the friend zone. She's right, you aren't her boyfriend. I'm always leery of women who bring men around at the drop of the hat to their friends, family, children, etc.
To prevent all of that extra crap that happened. Make your pitch with proposed time, day, and location in one ASK. All she has to do is say "yes", "no", or make a "counteroffer" if she's not available and not have to go into that uncomfortable talk about parents perceiving you as a boyfriend.
Call her and set your plans. If she doesn't flake that's a good sign she's interested. You're not in bad shape dude and this definitely fixable
