One day I received a text from this girl saying she has a boyfriend.

HER: Idk if this makes a difference but i have a boyfriend now.
ME: Well it may or may not considering how much we have hung out lately. (I almost completely forgot about her until she texted me)
HER: Yea ive been really busy. I just thought id let you know
ME: Well thnx for telling me. I didn't want to make some guy mad for stealing you from him :P haha
(she didn't reply after that)

Did I do anything wrong here? How should I have handled this?

Very weak. "I dont wanna make some guy mad" is where you lost her I believe.

She was fishing for your attention. Not talking for a long time and she returns with this? At one point, she must have seen you as boyfriend material. If you still want her, you should play a good game.
