So I met this hot brunette out at the bars recently. She started talking to me, as I was just alone chatting up the bartender. Anyway, I hung out with her friends for a while and then bounced, but got her number. I did not give her mine. Anyway, a few days later I decide to call her (instead of text, trying to make more an impression) and so I was thinking she may not answer, since it was a number she didn't know, but she does. I said who I was, and she immediately sounded awkward and confused, and said she was with her mom and only answered because she thought it may be an emergency. She said she'd call me back in 30, and she didn't (I could tell she wouldn't). Really just a disastrous conversation, she got awkward, then I got awkward (i'm actually usually pretty comfortable on the phone). Couldn't have gone too much worse. My friend is saying I should try her back again via text, but I was planning on cutting my losses and moving on. I obviously don't care about this girl in particular since I don't know her and there will be others, but part of me also wants to try to redeem myself. What do you guys think? Also, was I an idiot for calling instead of texting first. Any input would be awesome.

you didn't do anything inherently wrong, and although I prefer texting over calling on the first blush it wasn't a mistake. She likely would have just ignored your text if she blew off your call.

You have nothing to loose by texting her in a few days. Don't apologize at all you didnt do anything wrong.

Text her something like "Hey I hope your situation worked out, I had something important I wanted to ask you?"

if she responds push-pull from there, if not, just move on. Don't take these things personally or it will retard your progress, most casually aquired numbers without an attached emotional connection are a dead end, that doesn't mean you dont keep trying because most != all.
