So i was texting this hb asking her what she doing ? She replied back that was having lunch like normal office people do at that time. I then texted her back with some light banter followed by "are you trying to pick me up ?". Don't know if that was the smartest thing to do, but I just wanted to inject a bit of playfulness into the "conversation". Her reply after that was "you should stick to your day job. you can't make it as a comedian". Not wanting to be taken aback i replied with "lol was that meant to be a joke, looks like you suck more than i do :p what did you have for lunch, don't say mcdonalds !"

Need some opinion on my choice of words/theme as mentioned above, what can i do to either salvage this situation (which I believe is already in shambles, partly due to her being cold and unimaginative), and how should I approach a situation like the above next time round ?

The only saving grace is that she's replying to you which means s omething. If she didn't give a fuck about you she dwould probably just blank you

Its a test. When you neg a girl, u dont want her to leave u do u? Based on info u gave, it was a test. The problem was you acting slightly defensive towards it.

I love this comment, this girl has a good sense of humor and just negged U. She replied back (tht means didnt just blow u off) but made fun of U, perfect neg or a shit test wht ever u call it. She is funny

One of the major disadvantages of texting is there is no tonality to what you're saying. What she said could have been taken many different ways. Seems like you took it defensively with your reply:
This just came off as harsh, like she honestly hurt your feelings. How did she reply to you?
