Opinion Opener, Here it is:

HB/s: sure,yea,okay.etc (response)
ME: It wont be long,I actually have to get going, But my brothers 21st birthday is coming up and I really want to get him something nice. Do you have any ideas?

Btw if you guys have any opinions advice or if you could post some good openers for an afc like myself, it would be greatly appreciated.[/b]

The problem is that she may reply "Well, you know him better..." or just ask back what he likes and stuff, or give general, boring answers like a good book or whatever.
I'd polish it by adding things like "and I want to give him something AWESOME to decorate his room with" so they'll really start thinking about awesome decorations they know, and when they remember something, that's a success for them, so they are already entertaining themselves. And already you can follow up with negs/compliments, based on their answers, or start kino with thankful high-fives and such.

I'd rate the original 6.

yeah beetles got a point. The kinds of answers you might get are either, don't care (she doesnt know you or your brother) or a straight up answer which leaves you going no where.

Make your openers more to do about her opinion and her thoughts, and less about a suggestion that will give you a one sentence reply. This will give you more ways to keep your game going

Why brother? I find it very impossible to find a suitable present for my own one why should I worry about someone elses. Sister would be a lot better, that also excuses why you need a girls opinion.
