Hunter: So she replied I love you too, and was all giddy, so he doesn't know what to do, he didn't mean it, but he doesn't know if he should tell her

I'd say switch it and have the girl say she loved him first, makes your friend sound better.
With any part of the game it is delivery.
I like to take openers others have failed with and show them that they can work. Deliver in a cool fun way and your do good.

Location: Philadelphia | | With opinion openers its usually better if you first ask a quick question to get their opinion and THEN go into the story about why your asking the question. So i would rearrange that opener to sound more like this:
YOU: Hey guys, quick question
GIRLS: blah blah blah
YOU: Do you think drunk 'I love yous' count?
GIRLS: blah blah blah
YOU: The reason I'm asking is cuz my friend Dave, well his girlfriend got drunk last night and told him she loved him. Then she tried to take it back this morning. Like, can you even do that? I think she's just embarressed and now that she's not drunk she regrets it (Its good to give YOUR opinion on the subject)
GIRLS: blah blah blah
YOU: *tease the girl you like* and start attraction
And yes, any cold read or observation (or both. You can make and observation about her and then do a cold read based on that observation) is good to transition.
