hey guys, I went to a place called Chapters today (a big store where they sell books) and I saw this HB8 working there.

After I saw her I immediately took a random book title and asked her where I could find it. While she was leading me to the section of the book i wanted I was trying to start a conversation. I asked her "Do you really know the whole store by heart? Cause if you do, I guess I can call you amazing!"(pretty lame, i know.) When I said that she just smiled and said something like "ballbalba I wish (laughing at the same time).

After when I got the book I "wanted" i just said alright thanks for your help and have a good one (like an idiot, my heart was racing for "x" reason)

20 minutes or so later, I see her again walking past me and I playfully said "hey, stop slacking will ya?"
She responded with a "What are you talking about" (while laughing)

Then I got a phone call and my ride was there so i had to go.

I know its pretty lame approach, but for a first time i guess its not THAT bad...

If i ever go back to that store, what is a good opener and topic of conversation while shes working? Im a customer so i guess she would have to give me all of her attention...

What do you guys think?

lol have some patience sometimes young grasshopper... first off i dnt c anything u did as being lame..as long as u showed the right body language, then u good..ur openers wrked, and got her laughing which is an ioi...now next time u go, u can go directly up to her and say something like how u liked the book she picked, and say she has some good taste, then ask what kind of books she likes, this will prolong the conversation, and while talking, try to lead this time, as if ur lookin for something and know where ur going..but right before u get there, u stop and bring the convo to and end by sayin, u kno she has to get back to wrk but u wud like to continue and ask when does she take a brk? tell her u guys can get a coffee or lunch or something and talk about whatever u guys had a common interest on...frm there its either yes or no. cant really do much more if she's on the clock.. if u get that lunch date, keep it smooth and then number close for another date, let me know how it goes

Darkie is right. Everything he is telling you makes perfect sense. The more you frequent the book store, the more you will make yourself known to her. Also, don't beat yourself by thinking you were being lame. It sounds like you did pretty good when you were being witty with her.

Works best with a hard read. I love to pretend I can't read and insist she reads me the first page before I decide to buy the book for X relative. You'd be surprised how often they go along with the ordeal. When she's finished, explain you can read but wanted to see if she could read all those big words.

Meh. Being illiterate isn't very attractive to a girl that works around books I'm guessing. What book were you "looking" for? A book I actually want to read is "Are Men Necessary", I bet looking for that will open up some conversation. I get the feeling that picking up a girl that works in a book store is easier than any other job, those are my kind of girls: nerds. If you see her again, just make some total chump small talk and before things get awkward and drawn out, ask if she's single balls out, and then ask her to have coffee with you. Tricks are for kids.

thanks for the replies guys. The problem is; i dont know whens the next time shes working! last time i saw her was a sunday so ill probably try your suggestions this upcoming sunday.
