| The following first paragraph is a bit wordy - a description of a situation - that in another form will come up again... and for the next time, I want to be prepared. So... looking for some advice that would get me to a different outcome.
I am pretty new and trying to refine and add to my game.
So... if you have a minute or two, and are here to share - would greatly appreciate any good advice.
Here goes:
I was going to Borders tonight to buy a book for a friend. The store closes at 10PM. I was walking up to the place at 9:57PM... a few feet ahead of me this HB9 is at the door... it was locked, the security guard is signaling "too late, closed". She shows her watch, makes a cute face.. walaa... the door is open... I sneak/walk in right behind her.
She turns to me and says "wow, we just made it, huh"? - she is really happy... she rushes to the music/video section - I go to the book I need.
She runs up to get her stuff, I get mine... I am on line behind her... I turn sideways, look over my shoulder and ask "what were you in such a desparate rush to get" (not too original, but headed the 3 second rule...but here is where I could have used a great opener and quick follow) - she hands me both her things - a cd and some dvd. I say about the DVD "I have never even heard of this" - the cashier says again "excuse me, next." - She goes to the cashier, checks out, I am next.. she leaves the store.
OK> nothing exciting here about what happened - except that there were two great opportunity spots, and my little experience will (hopefully) get me some solid advice and much further on the next similar situation.
I can only think that I should have said "you would be really great for something - wait for me outside - I have a minute before I need to run... I'll quickly tell you"
Probably is a better to say, but there must have been some way that I could have gotten her to wait outside for me.
In the very short time - she had associated and achored her positive feeling of joy of getting in the store with my image, and also had given me her stuff to look at - at least a sign of comfort - maybe a quick IOI.
1. What line could have gotten her to wait the half minute outside the store while the speedy cashier checked me out
2. What could I have told her she was great at (or what is your best opener on a one-set) - especially given what had happened.
Any and all positive advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks all,
Nebu
