I posted something within the last week on the approach and opener section about Confidence and having a Postitve Mental Attitude - particularly when going to college but it works on changing schools too.

Read through that, any questions just ask
Also, as someone who moves from group to group within social circles its important to make friends with one person fairly quickly. Use him as a social anchor that introduces you to his friends. From there on build social proof. Remember that your not trying to become the Alpha Male just yet, your the new kid, you've gotta go through stages.
If someone is jokingly insulting you, return a jokey insult (preferably something he's already been hit with within the last few minutes). I'll give you an example from when i joined a new football (soccer) team - i new one guy, the rest were all amog's of their own social circles, so it was a melting pot of huge characters.
We all had some shots at the goal keeper before we started training (im a good shot from 25 yards so i was sticking some of them in). When i was getting introduced someone made fun of my name "what kinda name is that? that is shocking" to which i replied "a bit like your shooting then" (luckily he'd hit some shit shots). Everyone laughed, including him. Job? Done.
