Obviously will only work around this time of year, but it's great and it's field tested.
I use it like this:
- Used a standard opener.
- Then stacked it opening the whole group with "Merry Christmas!" whilst clinking glasses with everyone. This totally wiped the annoyed looks off the guys faces and everyone responds to it and accepts you as noone wants to be the scruge! Girls responded very well to the upbeat vibe i'd introduced.
Ok so the above is tested. The following are my thoughts on a routine to follow up with, this has not been tested yet though!
PUA - "Isn't it strange we clink glasses?"
HB - "Yeah actually... why is that?"
So here you can go two ways (word these your own way, and cut out the crap):
First explaination is, traditionally if a host wanted to prove that the wine wasn't poisoned, he would pour part of the guest's wine into his glass and drink it first. If the guest trusted his host he would just clink glasses when the host offered his glass for a sample. Hence the clinking of glasses has become a sign of trust, honesty and toast to good health.
Or
Second, The clinking crystal glasses together enables all five senses to be satisfied with fine wine.
1. Touch: good wine is drunk from fine glassware.
2. Sight: the rich colours.
3. Smell: the beautiful bouquet.
4. Taste: as we all know.
5. And finally.... the Sound: clinking the glasses together.
I think i prefer the second one, as you can name all the five senses, im sure that'll get them going
