The Beer Coaster

Prerequisite: You will need confident body language and a good aim

What is it: This is one of the biggest similes to baiting – Man at bar see’s woman 10-20 ft away ; man likes woman; man removes drink from beer coaster and appears to scribble a message on it; man throws coaster at woman; Woman walks over to man with coaster; swoon.


This is something I've created and use quite often at a packed bar when I don’t want to lose my spot/seat at the actual bar. If I see a beautiful lady temptress I will grab a trusty pen or ask the barman/maid to hand me one. I will scribble on the back of the coaster “ Please HAND this back to me…don’t throw, it’s rude.” Now here is where I am skilled, that is, throwing the coaster at the chick for a direct hit. At this point I will hold my hand up as if calling a waiter in a fancy restaurant with an exaggerated innocent look on my face so she knows who threw it. After that look you want to maintain eye contact and then smile; here it can go 3 ways:

a) She walks over with the coaster and hands it to you where you can reply with something witty such as “oops, butterfingers”
b) She will throw it back at you. At this point you have developed a friendly little coaster war game so you grab all coasters within site and throw them all at her one after the other. If she doesn’t approach even then, you grab your pen and write (make sure she see’s you writing on this one) on the last coaster something along the lines of “I’m sorry we got off on the wrong foot…let’s try this again.”
c) She keeps the coaster. Here you will write on another coaster, “HEY, give that back.”
d) She will pull out a gun and shoot you

Okay, I said it mainly goes 3 ways but d) is there for precautions sake. If you are great with your body language then this is one of the best ways to develop a feisty playful relationship with someone. Of course, sometimes you have to sacrifice your seat if she really decides to keep the coaster or surrendering after a’ coaster war,’ but if she’s close enough and not in a dynamic conversation with a huge crowd then she will mostly walk over…you’re on your own after that.
