so today i was studying in this big silent studyroom. at one point i went for a visit in the bathroom downstairs and a girl passed by me and looked at me somehow i didnt notice it in time to respond ( smile - eyecontact) and i also noticed by the time i passed hero she turned her head and looked at me again. when i got back to the studyroom i noticed she was sitting and also studying about 5-6 meter away and she looked at me and smiled and i smiled back.

i have had similiar situations before where i made eyecontact and exchanged smiles either in the subway/bus/lunchroom/class with a girl but then i dont know how to open a conversation or what to say.

i dont want a very specific opening/pickup line rather something direct and simple but not only "hi"

This is an interesting situation that I have found myself in many times as well. Times like these actually seemed more difficult to me at first, but they truly are much easier than when the girl is not making eye contact. Usually when opening you have to get the girls attention with your opener, but in this situation, she is already giving you IOI's, no need to use an intruder or some indirect opener. It may even be awkward if you try an opinion opener here. What I would suggest is use a direct opener like, "If your going to look at me like that, you should at least talk to me," with a confident smile on your face (credit to Sinn). If the girl was showing interest in you like you said, she'll likely laugh and maybe make some cocky comment back to you.
The truth is in this situation it almost doesn't matter what you say, as long as you have the proper body language and tonality, she will be happy just for you to communicate with her at all.
