You're going to hear a bunch of routines and people saying you should stick it out, but:

A) It's better to not be a shithead, there are plenty of single girls or girls who aren't hanging with their BFs around

B) It could cause a fight. I hope you can bob and weave. Even if you win the fight, you look like a dick.

You COULD be friendly with him and get both their numbers when you leave, then only contact her. If you want to stick it out, that's your best bet.

Really, if he can tell what's going on, just apologize and be polite. Don't be a bitch about it, but man up to not knowing she was taken.

If he's still mad, that's his problem.
