Was just thinking about openings, specifically how I can differentiate myself and disarm sets.

I have a very dry sense of humor, and Stephen Wright is right up my alley. I figure most self-absorbed 20 something HBs aren't familiar with his masterful work.

Tomorrow,

I'll walk up to a 3+ set, tell them I'm an aspiring comedian and ask if I can practice my material on them. They wont want to be rude, and everybody loves stand-up comedy. They'll be expecting high energy, Robin Williams or Ralphie May, when I deliver the driest humor they have ever heard. "When I get real bored, I like to drive downtown and get a great parking spot, then sit in my car and count how many people ask if I'm leaving." "When I was a kid, we had a quicksand box in the backyard. I was an only child . . . eventually."

If they get it, great, they may want more
If they don't get it, they can help me improve

What do you think?

You are over thinking opening. It really isn't important what you use as an opener as long as they are receptive to it. If that is what you want to use... try it and see if it works.

I think it's better than most stuff I come up with. But I'm not an aspiring comedian. If you get that first opinion comedy line to make 2 of the 3 laugh, you could go places.

Like I said... just use what ever you are comfortable with. But if you aren't actually an aspiring comedian, you better be ready to have some answers ready for questions. Girls will shit test you. They will ask "where do you perform?" "when is your next show?" "how long have you been in comedy for?" shit like that... Just have answers ready. What really matters is that you know how to control the interaction. If you can control the frame of interaction from the beginning and not get all caught up on a question, it makes the whole pick up process much easier.
