Ok, so there is this smoking hot HB 8.5. She just started at my company. Thing is, she doesn't work in my Dpt. How can I approach her in a confident, non creepy way? I want to take her to lunch very soon. She seems cool, and she has given me a few IOI's.

Any help would be great.

First of all - Don't dip your pen in company ink.

Should you disregard this however, you should take advantage of her being new.

"Hey! I suppose you're new here, my name is bhawks4life."

After that keep the conversation going for a little while - ask about previous jobs, if she moved to this town in order to work there etc. and cut it off with "Well, I really need to get back to work now, let's grab a cup of coffee sometime!"

Done deal.

You can introduce yourself to work girls and be talkative and flirty, but you need to know your limits. Most companies want their coworkers to be friendly with one another, they just don't want to have to deal with a sexual harrasment cases.

What I normally do is go to where she is, no matter what she is doing, and make an observational statement that is as humorous as I can make it. If she's heating up her food in the breakroom I'll say "Ever notice that every microwave on the planet has different buttons and control knobs? No two are the same." Then I'll laugh and she'll agree and start laughing too. Then maybe say one or two more things before finally introducing yourself. The reason I take that indirect approach is so the interaction feels natural, and not like I just followed her in there and opened her like she was a set at a club/bar.

That's how you can develop rapport and get your foot in the door. Asking her out is a little more telegraphed, and you put yourself at risk by doing that. So you have to play that carefully. I would really work the rapport angle first and wait for IOIs before taking the leap of asking her out.

Hmm, Puaninja, I like what you're saying. The more natural, the better. I am having a bit of trouble though because she sits kind of far a way from me, and I don't really have a lot of time to find out where she is going, or going to be..is it ok to just approach her at her desk, or should I wait and see if I can catch her "about"? It's a delicate balance, I understand that for sure.

Walking up to a coworker you don't really know while she's sitting at her desk and then trying to hit on her is not only awkward, but it's a very bad idea. I would advise waiting for an opportune moment, then strike.

You can also use a tactic I've done before, which is to talk to people around her. Then you are putting yourself near her without scaring her off. She gets to see and hear you and get a feel for your personality. Then maybe you or someone else casually draws her into the conversation, and all of sudden now you know each other.
