How to open direct in crowded situations eg. street corners?

Say you're on a busy commercial street in Manhattan at the corner and you see a cutie you want to approach. What is a good opener?

I am all about the DIRECT opener like, "Excuse me, I just saw you here and I thought you were cute so I wanted to say hi." It works for me in more calm low energy situations, but at the corner it doesn't work as well cause she feels the pressure of the crowd. My thought is I need an opener that is a bit lighter and addresses the social situation - anybody worked on this?

Thanks.

P.S. I know indirect can work here, but I always get confused when I'm indirect here direct there...I need to be all in direct all the time.
