I was out last night and I came across an example of my favorite set. When I saw it I suddenly realized that this was the only set I have always been totally comfortable opening. Even when I was a BAFC I would still open these sets mercilessly. It was ---One guy and three HBs.--- Actually the number of ladies isn't important. But it needs to be at least two, and the more the better.
In a set like this I usually go straight up to the guy and say "Dude, I have to know... How is it that you are the only man in here with three women?" This completely ignores the girls and ingratiates me to the guy. He will typically say something AFC "Oh we just work together", or maybe slightly CF "Well I'm the Pimp". If he's AFC, no problem. If he's CF I just have to CF back "Whoa man, you shouldn't say that! I mean... if you're the pimp, that implies that they're the hoes. You guys aren't hoes, are you?" Or, "Cool! Do you do extortion and run numbers too or are you just in prostitution?"
Whatever happens, I'm in the set. There's almost no chance that this guy is dating all three of these women at once and likely he isn't dating any of them. They are usually all just friends and if I can be friends with the man I can easily be friends with the girls... well, all the girls that is except one of them... but then maybe I can take that one aside and make up for the fact that we haven't been hitting it off yet... etc...
The big difference now is that I stack openers. Once I'm in I open up two or three more threads before I start listening. And I always make sure that I'm locked in.
