first of all, work is just a social circle. social circles are how most people actually hook up, ie school, work, friend of a friend. it actually requires the least amount of game because the introductions and value come more naturally. i've seen the advice you are talking about where people say don't do it. it's pretty silly to come to a PUA forum and tell people not to pick someone up who they want, exception being something illegal or life threatening.
second, mystery method is old school at this point. take only what works for you and toss the rest. it requires way too much talking and performing. that being said, if you need something to say that is interesting you can always run a classic routine like "
the ring". use that as an excuse to touch her.
lastly, the longer you draw it out the less chance you have of succeeding. pick a time and go for it. alpha up. take her hand and invite her to something that she may like. this could be something like bowling, or dinner (at your place) or coffee. if there is a work place lunch area simply invite her to eat lunch with you and make your move from there. i personally would even pay for the lunch out of no where and just say "come sit with me". the goal not just to have a nice conversation but to get her logistics and arrange to see her later. but you have to try to work in kino the whole time.
