Others here started going on how he should strike back. But why? A simple "no" shouldn't be offensive. Comparing this to bullying is outright socially retarded. How is this "putting him down?" All they did was expressing a clear disinterest. Or perhaps they were busy, you can't fucking judge people like this.
If a "no" hurts your little ego, and you feel the need to go back at them eventhough they didn't do anything against you, then you have very big inner game issues. This is not real man behaviour and you may try bullshitting OP that it is, but you won't sell this shit to me.
