I was able to start one or two conversations with her from the start of the semester so any later interactions wouldn't be weird. I talk to her here and there for a few minutes and we say hi when we see each other or whatever. **I noticed she smiles when she says hi, but who doesn't right?**
However its hard to start a conversation or keep one for long since we're both off to our next class or whatever. It also makes it a little bit harder because she has a girl friend in the class so i find myself talking to both and not directly her.
Any advise?
FYI: She is Korean and just moved here from Korea around 2-3 years ago. *if that makes any difference**

Or if they are sitting indirectly apart project your voice toward the friend but keep your gaze locked into your main targets eyes.
It's multitasking so practice talking while gazing in a different direction beforehand so you don't trail off when you're speaking. It's also good to use in groups to keep everyone feeling included.
