hi guys, i currently work as a bar tender and obviously that means lots of interactions with lots of people (some hot, most not). But because of how busy it can get it means i don't get much time to actually start a decent conversation with the hot ones.

i have had one bit of success though, a HB8 was sat at the end of my bar alone, i went over and served her, after taking her money i asked what reason she was there for her reply was "im meeting a friend". i just responded with "yeah?! i hate waiting in bars for friends, especially when the annoying bartenders talk too much" she laughed, i know it wasn't great but she asked my name which i thought was a winner. We made some small talk for a few seconds before her friend arrived who was another guy (first date actually) lol, i left them too it had a quick chat when i went to serve them again etc but when he went off to the toilet she slipped me her number. I asked about the other guy and she said he was boring... i think this is possibly my first pick up :/ but im happy with that

just wondering if anyone had any ideas for people in my profession?

VERY well done. This is an example that a lot of the time less is more.

I have never been a bartender but have dated and almost married one. Now this is different because you are a guy in the scenario. I have gone out with several of my female friends and the bartenders that do the best charm the hell out of them. They aren't over the top. They do exactly what you did. Something quick and witty followed up by a smile.

Understand you are intimidating to woman though. If they are going to make an advance it either has to be passive like a number slip or they have to put themselves out there in front of all the other patrons.

Pick your spots and make sure to be fun. You have to remember that these woman are going to get hit on by everyone and their mother in this setting. If you can make them laugh and enjoy their night out you'll need pants with bigger pockets....for all those numbers...And tips!

You need to be careful with outright asking customers for numbers, so wording is key. Instead of "What's your number?" you can say things like "Yea maybe I could call you sometime" and just kind of leave it open ended. She'll obviously know that she needs to give you her number. Bartenders have the upperhand since they are always the center of attention and inherently alpha. And the customers will be hanging there for a while and so will you, so time is on your side. You can even wait for them to return another night or invite them back and work the angle over several days. Also, sometimes going to your bar on your days off is a good way to sarge the regulars that you can't really get a chance to hit on while you are working. Then you're like a king, because you know all the staff, you know all the customers, but you are not on the clock and can pick up whoever you want. And it's a bar, so nobody really gives a fuck.
