Ok guys, so this may sound stupid, but I have no idea how to make small talk with people. This isn't just for girls either. When I'm on a plane I never talk to the people sitting next to me, I never talk to the person cutting my hair, aside from my friends, I only say what is essential to get what I need from people. I guess the thing is that I never know how to open a conversation and what to talk about and how to lead that into a deeper conversation. What are good ways to start a conversation with anybody?

ask a question, comment on something situational, the weather, or just ask how there doing. Each time you interact with someone try to get a few extra lines of dialogue in, it will soon become easier. Practice makes perfect

I am a hardcore introvert and I am guessing that you are the same way. What has helped me be able to be more social is to always have canned openers and canned cold reads to launch a conversation. After that I just banter my ass off and make things as long and emotionally stimulating as possible. I just imagine I have to write a long essay about anything the other person says and just launch my ass of talking about something.

Breaking the ice and getting the momentum are the most difficult parts for me because of my introverted ways, so this strategy works perfect for me.

Do you feel like you have an overall good and charismatic vibe/energy when you talk or is banter also an issue for you?
