| Hey guys, I've been using this opener for months now, and it works every time. Although its catered to blackberry users, I have provided a variation for other phones as well. Check out these examples!
ME: Excuse me, do you have a blackberry?
HER: Uh, ya.
ME: Do you have any idea how to check a bbm message, without showing that you've read it?
--She shows you how to do it, in which case you can have fun exploring each others phones, and even add her to test it out!
-- Or she doesn't know how and you can follow with this-
ME: Oh ok, because my ____ (I like to use "mom", "ex gf" or "grandma") keeps messaging me, and I don't want her to see that I read it!
--This usually gets a laugh or an intrigue of some sort.
ME: Do you have any friends or family that constantly bother you?
HER: Of course!
blah blah blah
--With a non blackberry (iPhone or something) I recommend replacing BBM with a popular APP or a feature such as face time, and follow with the questions below.
The opener is a way to mutually figure out your problem (working together and exploring eachothers cellphones).
Since everyone has a cellphone, you come off as a friendly stranger looking for some friendly help. And since people (girls especially) use cellphones 24 hours a day, you're guaranteed to fall on to a topic that will create a talkative conversation:
"OMG, are you one of those people who texts their parents?"
"Do you use lot of abbreviations and emoticons?"
"What ever happened to ringtones??? want to hear mine? k call me real quick and check it out!"
Our cellphone is a significant part of our lives, and offers a social connection to friends and family every second of the day, so what's a better opener?
