Just to get rid of them? would this explain why girls flake on callbacks?

If a girl does that it could be for a number of reasons. My experience it is normally down to not building enough comfort or rushing through the attraction side of things.

Sometimes she might feel pressured into giving it you only to later on regret it and hence not call you back.

yea girls definately give numbers to guys they have no real interest in, some girls just want to get rid of you and when you go for the number thats their most polite oportunity to exit, some just enjoy the validation side ,some have two phone numbers one for orbitors they dont intend on sleeping with etc etc

I wouldnt put this down to why girls flake even girls who were attracted at night in the day think that they'd like to keep life simple and a guy would put a spanner in the works,some might have been drunk and sober are having second thoughts.
I give my number to girls im not attracted to if they really want it but im not going to bang them they can go into friend catagory as ive shown them zero interest but makes for a full social circle.

Yes, sometimes a girl will give you a number just to get rid of you. Or, more likely, give her number out to maybe 5 other guys that night as well, and see which one holds their interest by NOT texting "hey it's John from the club remember me let's get a drink or something when r u free." Calling her is a better bet, but flakes happen my friend, it's all a numbers game.

I agree that texting something generic & mundane such as "hi, let's get together when you're free" etc is a bit weak! I've done it myself & not got very far! So, what would you suggest as an alternative thing to text the girl with, in order to de different & hold her interest? Also, how long should I wait to text or ring a girl after initially meeting her? I feel that this is one of my failings. I show too much interest too soon!
