-I have her on facebook
-I don't have her number
- I haven't seen/spoken to her for about a year

How do I re-initiative contact, do you reckon I should go straight out and ask her on a date?

"wow, I was cleaning out my friends list and bumped into your page! I haven't seen you in forever!! How have you been? "

pretty solid re-open. She will recognize that instead of deleting her with the rest of the junk you sent a message. Very slight and casual IOI.

^ That does not sound casual.

Message her something stupid to catch her attention like:

I just saw somebody steal your goat, msg back asap.
or
I'm going to rob a bank and jump into a submarine full of strippers, wanna join?

There's a good chance that she will respond like wtf?

then you can say:
Direct: I was bored and wanted to know if you were who I thought you were.

THEN you ask her more personal questions, or her opinion on something.

I.e. This is perfect timing, I need your opinion on something. I have a friend who told his girlfriend I love you, but he was drunk. He took it back when he was sober and he's gf is pissed, who do you think is right?

Her: blah blah blah.

This sets up something for you to talk about on a date, and trust me, there will be lots to talk about.

Well there are 2 reasons that trying to sound casual will make you seem try-hard.

1) You already have an established relationship with this person.
2) It is already clear that you are expressing interest. which I talked about in the post.

Take either approach and post your results.
