The other day I came up with an opener for the Superbowl. I know that this may not apply for some of you, but I sarge in El Paso, TX a lot and am originally from Arlington, TX (home of the Superbowl) so this is a perfect way to open and get the conversation moving. I field tested this opener throughout the past weekend and had success in opening and hooking the group every time it was used.

Most people are familiar with the Superbowl and the new Cowboys stadium (where it will be held this year) so my opener goes like this:

Me: Tell me something, my buddy wants to go to the Superbowl this year and wants me to tag along with him.
Her: Really cool, you should go.
Me: But, the only tickets he can get are the one's Jerry Jones (the Cowboys owner) is selling for $200 bucks a pop! And these are just to sit out on the lawn and watch it on one of Jerry's Jumbo-Trons.
Her: Are you serious?
Me: Yea, and that's not the worst of it. Only the shittiest hotels still have rooms available so they are gouging the price. Fucking Motel 8 is charging $700 the day of the Superbowl.
Her: No, I wouldn't go that's ridiculous. [I've never heard anyone say otherwise]
Me: Yea, so are you a fan?

Yada, yada

This works well for groups that consist of men/women. It really gets the conversation going around the set and helps establish rapport. It also helps extract information from the target, which can be used in a myriad of ways (DHV, neg, cold reading, etc...)

Obviously this can only be used for a limited time, but please let me know what you think. This is the first time I've posted an opener.
