I've decided to take the plunge and take care of my problem with approaching attractive women once and for all. My problem is, though, that I live in a smaller city where the same people go to the same places most of the time, and a majority of these people know each other.

My fear is that if I start approaching women and getting shot down while I learn what the hell I'm doing, I'll muddy the waters and make it hard for me once I get better at it.

Any of the more experienced guys here have this concern starting at first? Should I get the bugs worked out somewhere with a bigger population?

Hi, Yes I have this concern too.
I live in fairly small town and the number of suitable women walking about at any one time is limited. If I make several approaches in the same area I feel uncomfortable and conspicuous. So, now that I have free time during the day I've decided to travel to nearby towns. My AA reduced quite quickly and I've now extended to night time bars and made a little progress there too. Up to now my conversation has been poor but even so I've got 1 phone No. but I'm not following this one up, because of an issue in the conversation.

So I would say travel around if it makes you feel better and you have the time.

Seriously, don't care about it, yes it is better to go to other towns, but why waste more time and money when you can do it in your hometown, everyone standing around assumes you know the people in the set that your talking to anyway

Haha note taken. There's other towns not too far away (15-20 minute drive) that I can practice in first. I plan to just open every set I see without trying too hard to close until I get suitably calibrated, I'm talking like 30 sets per night, and then hit the usual places close to where I live. I'm sure I'll give less of a fuck once I've had some target practice.

The other problem with small-town sarging is that in some cases (like mine) you are in a small town where you are lucky to see someone who is above the quality of an HB5.

But I agree, if you have your own transport and some free time best thing to do is just spend different days in different small towns nearby and practice.
