I don't agree with first rule of Having an Outcome. If you attach yourself to result already then it will make a person more nervous. On the other hand if you just approach for the sake of opening up and see where it goes then you will be less nervous.
Like Sixty says, Approaching is about giving her a chance to know you. It ain't mean anything else.
