Me: Hey guys, let me get a quick opinion on something, do you think it would be weird for a girl to propose to a guy (or what do you think about a girl proposing to a guy)?
Set: blah blah
Me: Well my friend, (name), has been dating this girl for about 4 years and she recently proposed to him at this restaurant, but he said no because he's very traditional and believes that the guy should propose to the girl. She was absolutely broken and embarrassed after this. What do you think he should have done in that situation?
Set: blah blah
Then move on.
I actually tried this on a waitress when me and my buddies were out eating one time and got a pretty positive response, but maybe that's just because she's a waitress being nice.
I'm just not sure if some people would take this the wrong way and get offended, but the reason I like this is because if it's a mixed set, guys would throw in their opinion as well (not that it matters really, just makes it easier to win over the group)
Let me know what you guys think, any flaws? upsides?

I think that this opener is really nice. It has what I call a "female interest ariser" to it. It almost aludes to the double standard. Women love talking about things that are unfair to them, like how guys can cheat while girls cannot, or like your opener which implies that men can propose and women cannot (or so it conventionally seems by social standards).
The only piece of advise that I can offer is to make sure that when you are using this opener, notice the reaction of the group because you would not want to disagree with people within the group. It may make you look like a sexist a**, which is a complete turn off for most women. Overall it is effective though.
One thing that I try to do in my openers is create a situation that the group has to actually think about the answer. I try to stay away from opinion openers that require a yes or no reply. It all depends on your frame's strength, but when you use an opener that can be answered with a simple yes or no, then a woman can brush you off with that answer and you get burned. Again, it really depends how energetic and interesting you seem.
