i appraoched a girl today, i said hi you're cute and so on. first thing she said was "i have a bf" so i tried to downplay it saying "yeah, im not hitting on you though" something like that. and we talked for a while, but she didn't ask for my name when i asked for hers, which i thought was a indicator of disinterest. we talked a little bit mroe and she asked question and stuff, but then she was like "my phone is ringing" which i thought was another indicator of disinterest. so i said "ncie meeting you and left.

what do you guys think? was she lying about that phone call?

No she wasn't lying about the phone call you scared her away dude. You came on too strong with the 'your cute' remark and you opened yourself up for an Instant shutdown. You conveyed your intentions too early in the conversation so she summed you up as just another guy hitting on her.

You should never begin with a compliment about aesthetic appearance. Make her work for your approval.

"And? whats that got to do with (xyz)?"

or

"Yeah me too anyways I was wondering..."

There is always a good chance they don't actually have one.

I'm a great looking guy but the only time direct openers such as that seem to work for me is if a girls been giving me IOI's all night or she comes up and opens me, so basically if I already know that she's into me. However if I'm trying to pick 'her' up I find I need to be alot more elusive and entertaining, play the game a little bring her down to my level a bit, i.e. seduce her.

Theres no seduction in telling a girl your cute. You may as well just say 'hey! you make my dick hard, how about it?' you'll get the same results.

Direct openers work in daygame. They work quite well. You have to be genuine about your comment though, but they work. 'Cute' might not be so good. 'You have a flamboyant stye', 'I just love the way your hair compliments your figure' will work a lot better. Night game (which you seem te be refering to) will not work as well.
