It's all to easy to write too much in a profile and effectively shoot yourself in the foot. One of the hardest things with profiles is knowing what girls will do under the "right" circumstances. Not sure where I robbed (parts of) this profile from, Maybe I saw it on someone's here. Not taking credit for writing it but I've been testing it for a while on pof. Prob the pic helps too. it gets quite a lot of unsolicited messages and views from decent looking girls. Based on that I'd say you have a better chance of responses assuming you write girls who like similar things.

I’ve got a great sense of humour. I’m a very well liked respectable kind of guy. I like camping and fishing and I like to travel and snowboard. I’m enjoying the new career path I’ve just begun, and living here kinda rocks right now! I love meeting new people but I’m not looking to become someone’s serious boy toy … so let’s just hangout and see what’s wut.
P.S. If you’re too shy to say hello, then ask one of your friends to pass me a note that says “My friend likes you… do you like her too? Circle Yes or No”
first date: Getting to know each other
notes
-change camping, fishing, snowboarding for appropriate things
-change "living here" for "living in (your town)"
-note the general minimalism
-note nothing said about what sort of girl is being sought, like attracts like is implied
-Pic wise, just have 1 but it better be a good one! Prob something congruent with the specifics. crop yourself in a holiday pic. Smiling. You can get around topless photos getting banned by cropping yourself just below the shoulders before you upload.
-note statements that convey you "get it" regarding the process of meeting/dating
