2. How do you respond to it?

Overall, I started yesterday and I noticed when I copy and paste something on their profile as a subject line, I get 100% VIEWS (5 out of 5) on my profile which doesn't say much as I haven't gotten responses yet except for this one. But it sure beats getting overlooked and never have her click through just to have a look at my profile.

I figured the photos still suck. So I'll find a photographer who wants to build his/her portfolio to take some "not ugly" photos.

Any tips on how I should have opened that HB above?

See online is tricky because a neg is a joke. and because you were online she could hear your tonality which makes up 36% of human communication.
This girl felt insulted and decided to hit back.
For future reference i think you should neg. then throw in a smile.
For example if a girl is in a picture say.
"That shirt is totally ugly "

If a girl has taken the time to write a message back - she's interested, even if it is only a little bit. You've negged her hard, and she's negged you back and challenged you. Your response to her question didn't make sense, because you talked to her first. After you've negged her like that there's no way she's gonna admit to you being hotter than any of the other guys. Also the answer sounded a little bit like you were qualifying yourself to her, and as if you gave too much of a shit what her response was. I wouldn't have a clue what to reply to this either tbh, you made it hard on yourself by negging too hard. Maybe you could add a compliment in your opener as well as a neg, and as Zeabra said using smiles and 'lol' is important to show that you're being playful. I made the same mistake by negging too hard without using an smileys or anything a couple of weeks ago and it fucked up lol.

I'll do more split testing with profile photos just to gauge response rate.

Man, HotOrNot is really a pain when you have to rate so many people in order to get rated back! But it is a worthy long term investment.

I would stay away from that site. As its more geared to attention whores than anything else. Ya I know it has a "dating" thing built into it. But its really not worth the effort. As people don't really care what you put in your profile.

Also Foodtastic, your conversation showed yet another reason why to never to use negs online, especially when you open them. As most of the time it never goes well as they more than likely will take it as an insult. Also the girl's profile is gone. So she either deleted it or hid it. My guess is she deleted it.

I just use PlentyOfFish as a laboratory to test and optimise my profile and get good at my emailing skills. Then I port the stuff that works to other pay dating sites where women are less bombarded by emails but instead by kisses/winks/etc. That way I don't waste on my email credits on those paying sites.

I gotta say, I've a good feeling about this somehow. Before I joined PUA forum, I tried HotOrNot and was talking to a few girls already. I just leverage on my highly rated photos (social proof by strangers) and emailing all the hot women in my area. Did not number close at the time but it shows online does work if you get it right.

Thats reasonable. Tho I doubt the number of e-mails girls get on a free site compare to a pay one is that much of a difference. As the hot girls are still going to get a ton of messages no matter if the site is free or not. The only real difference between the two is more than likely will be the type of e-mails girls get on pay sites. As people are more serious in finding someone on a pay site than a free one.
