"hey sorry for the random request, don't want you to think i'm a creeper or something haha, you just looked familiar from around school so i figured i'd say hi"
she replied pretty quickly with
"haha it's fine i didn't think you were a creep! lol"

She may be thinking - If I look familiar to him from school why is he hiding behind a computer to talk to me.
When you next see her in real life it may get slightly awkward if you dont talk to her and leave her feeling better than before she met you(talking from personal experience)
Secondly by saying "Sorry" and "dont want you to think im a creeper or something haha" your supplicating and your putting her in charge. Your qualifying your self to her. I assume you added 'haha' to make it seem light hearted and jokey and dissipate any wierdness from the sentance.
Anyway those are my thoughts on it. Im not so experienced in Online Game but can you imagine getting that message from another girl or even another guy. It would make you feel like they are of lower value.
Since she is in your college she doesnt want to get a bad reputation or anything so she is being nice in return. You basically want to make sure that you already have pictures of your self up on facebook having fun, doing interesting things (on holiday, adventure, playing sports, hobbies etc.) Fore some reason if someone has more friends than you on facebook you feel as though thier value is higher (well i do, because of how it shows social proof).
You can still do well from the situation that you're in. Ask your friend who has had success with it what he would do. Just dont go into small talk and interview mode. If you know what course she has been studying, make a statement like "You look like someone who studies Law" If she replies with why just say "You have those greedy eyes". You may want to tease her about her profile and find out certain things about her.
Good luck bro.
