She's a comedienne, so I'm pretty certain she's not being defensive.

Im not sure how to go about answering this but can I point out a potential mistake? You should have used a name after saying "a friend of mine" like saying, "a friend of mine, craig," or any other random name. If you dont use a name then she assumes it is you talking about yourself. The Mystery Method details this quite well.

maybe its an opportunity to illustrate you understand the the position of the girl in the story. like in response to dumb to see it that way
