I've been doing some research on sexual behavior and dominance. David Buss at the University of Texas has written some great stuff. You can read his publications here: http://homepage.psy.utexas.edu/homepage ... ations.htm

Most of Buss' research isn't really exactly focused around performing pickups, getting laid, and so forth. I'm sure he'd like to be coming up with magic bullet theories on how men and women can get whoever they want whenever they want, get laid, find happiness and so forth, but that's tricky because people are different and sometimes the differences in their preferences are not all that strong. His research is limited somewhat in that his major methodology involves simply filling out surveys, which don't always produce results as accurate as observation. (People are not always logical and don't always understand themselves.) He has made attempts to verify the validity of the answers given by respondents using statistical techniques at times, but for the most part, their answers are taken at face value.

Despite all these drawbacks, there's some good stuff in his writings. One thing I thought was interesting was the notion that women have different views on dominance than men. I think most of us realize that generally speaking, women are more attracted to dominance than submission. Men generally think of dominance as being about subordination of others for the betterment of themselves; women think of it more along the line of being the force behind organizing groups.

I went through Buss' "Sex differences in the evaluation and performance of dominant acts" and pulled out a list of the most effective acts to appear dominant to women. These are ranked roughly in order; the scores correspond to different personality tests:
Code:
i talked a great deal at the meeting 67 53 i took charge of things at the committee meeting 57 50 i took the lead in livening up a dull party 50 32 i issued orders that got the group organized 43 36 i took the lead in organizing a project 43 43 i settled a dispute among the members of the group 39 35 i refused to have sexual relations with my partner 39 24 i persuaded others to accept my opinion on the issue 37 33 i was highly involved in a political campaign 36 30 i told a long story to entertain others 36 26 i took command of the situation after the accident 35 19 i addressed a public gathering 33 37 i challenged someone to discuss her position 30 42 i took the initiative in a sexual encounter 30 34 i introduced the speaker at the meeting 32 42 i chose to sit at the head of the table 35 21 i initiated a conversation with a stranger 34 26 i made a bold sexual advance 30 32
I wrote a POF profile making use of a bunch of this stuff (all true, of course, selected based on rank on this list) and I've been getting about two random contacts per day. I don't know about you, but in the past, I've rarely gotten random contacts on POF; usually I have to initiate contact.
