Basically, I saw this girl always posting pictures of cars so I figured that's some common ground I could start a conversation on.

I was kidding around and I asked her if guys are always messaging her to tell her how pretty she was.

She said "Yeah, haha"

So I said "Well don't get me wrong, you're a cute girl but I messaged you to talk about that picture you just posted!".

Granted, I obviously messaged her to try and talk to her but she responded with

"Really? OK. BYE. You don't just say that to girls!".

Any other time I've messed around, people have always laughed and been like "Oh darn!'. Why was she so insulted?

Reply saying she shouldn't be so offended that you thought it was awesome she is a transformer.

That was a pretty crap opener in my opinion. You are typing on the computer. She cannot see you are being sarcastic automatically. It isn't live game. Yea a lot of women would get the joke, but you risk someone not getting it and receive no benefit for doing so.
