Does anybody have any tried and tested methods of successfully demonstrating higher value online?

I mean obviously having a decent well written non needy profile helps with this but I find successfully DHV'ing online very difficult. Its easyer when the women initiates the chat because you can assume the position of being the selector and its kind of a role reversal. But DHV'ing a message your sending to a random girl based on her profile is hard. I either come across as try hard or tool cool for school.

I assume you are talking about online dating sites? If so, think about it this way, everyone there is trying to get a DATE and girls who are 4+ are getting dozens if not hundreds of messages a day! Don't try to get the date in your opener, try to get a response (make her emotions/curiosity wake up)! Once you have the response then start working on getting the date.

High status photos, photos with friends, photos being active all show DHV.

A short to the point write-up is better than a long drawn out one IMHO. The more you write the more you look like you are trying to impress.

"I like girls, I like to have fun. You're a girl, you like to have fun! Sounds like we will hit it off!" is better than "I am a nice guy and I have a great job selling ties to homeless people, you would be surprised how much homeless people care about looking sharp while standing around the bonfire" Blah, blah.
