hi guys, do u think theres any chance ill run into a friend on one of these sites? that could be very awkward, because not many people my age (20) go on these sites. thats why i havent opened one yet, because itll be real pictures of me, so if anyone i know stumbles on my profile then many people might find out.

If you are talking about a dating site for online game I wouldn't worry about it too much. If youre talking about sites like this that is why I'm sure a lot have aliases and leave the location situations vague.

I'd say finding someone you know on a dating site is fairly likely - I've seen a couple of girls I know on POF so far, and accidentally run into a few girls in real life who I've previously talked to on dating sites.

The real question, though, is why do you care? I used to carry my internet dating habits like a dirty secret when I first started, but now I pretty much tell everyone I know. Nobody even bats an eyelid - it's not a big deal at all.

Ps - I'm (relatively) young like you (24), and age isn't an issue - there are loads of young people on dating sites.

The only way someone you know is gonna find you on a dating site, is if they are on there aswell! Neither person can take a moral high-ground because you're both doing the same thing lol

You can always open a profile with no pics, and just attach pics to the messages you send.

I was a little apprehensive about opening an account on a dating site, too. I was very secretive about it at first because I live in a pretty small place. A friend of mine has an account and sees people he knows on it all the time.
Really, though, it just doesn't matter. Take this for what it is, but within 5 years, you won't care about whether or not someone you know finds you on a dating site. You'll openly tell people about it. I know I do. You're just being you and pursuing your interests, my friend.

Just thought I'd mention that this actually happened to me yesterday, a girl I know but haven't spoken to in months found me on POF and said "Well hello Musterion, didn't expect to see you on here lol"
I replied "Why the fudge not eh, couple of mates are on here and said it's a good bit o' fun
(you are [her name] right? Lol)"
As a bit of a neg to suggest I don't recognise her from her pictures. We then just got chatting about the kinda people we'd both been talking to etc, eventually the conversation went sexual after she said she was just looking to expand her social circle, I said that 99% of guys on the site would be more interested in friends with benefits and she tells me she hasn't had sex in 'a long long long time' which I took as green light to turn up the heat in the convo haha. She's a little crazy and not much more than a HB6 but there is definately opportunity there for me to lay her which I'm seriously considering.
