I'm wondering if anyone has any tips for steering a conversation towards the flirty or sexual without turning the girl off or coming off as a creep.
I'm thinking my odds of getting somewhere on the actual date will increase if flirting has happened or sex has been discussed beforehand.

The heavy lifting should be done in person, unless you are just looking to hook up. I'll usually ask a girl who her prototypical celeb crush is, male and then female. Almost all women will tell you that they would go gay for Angelina or whoever. I'll tie that into the "are women more bisexual than men" string, which ends up being sexually charged.
All in all, the most important thing is to act like you don't need it. Girls are smart. They know what you're after, most of the time. Just escalate with her to avoid friend-zone issues.
